Meet the Doctors of Vital Spines

Dr. Gillian Nixon (Chiropractor)

Dr. Gillian Nixon comes from an extended family of Chiropractors, in fact Gillian’s Uncle Bob was instrumental in suggesting a career in Chiropractic whilst she was completing her Bachelor of Science at the University of Auckland NZ.

Gillian went on to complete her Bachelor of Chiropractic at the world renowned New Zealand Chiropractic College, graduating with an award for Meritorious Service.

Gillian moved to Melbourne upon graduation. Over 15 years on, Gillian is married with two children and is the owner of Vital Spines, a thriving Family Wellness Chiropractic practice.
Vital Spines, sees large percentages of entire families, children, babies and pregnant women, infact people from all ages and stages.

Dr. Gillian is passionate about growing healthy children for tomorrows world.  She has a special interest in newborn care and school aged children with respect to retained neurological reflexes affecting children developmentally.
Gillian continues her education in this field.

Dr. Gillian Nixon (Chiropractor) is certified to perform the pregnancy care technique, known as Webster Technique awarded by The  International Chiropractic Paediatric Association in 2007.

The Webster Technique is defined as a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nerve system and facilitates biomechanical balance in pelvic structures, muscles and ligaments. This has been shown to reduce the effects of intrauterine constraint.

Dr. Gillian uses many Chiropractic techniques, varied according to age and the clients need. These include Activator, Thompson, Cranial adjusting as well as Gonstead and Diversified manual techniques.


Dr. Caroline Risby (Chiropractor)

Caroline studied at RMIT University in Melbourne and has been working with Dr Gillian for over 15 years, as a student and Chiropractor.

After graduating, she worked in Melbourne and then travelled England and Europe as a Chiropractor.  After 3 wonderful years abroad she returned to practice again in Australia.

Caroline is passionate about Chiropractic care for children and pregnant women and is Webster Technique Certified awarded by The  International Chiropractic Paediatric Association in 2007.

Dr Caroline has a particular interest in the effect of tongue tie on the cranial and nerve system, and can provide extensive care and advice before and after revision.

She loves being a part of the Vital Spines team and looks forward to helping you improve your health naturally through gentle, safe Chiropractic care.

Dr Caroline uses Sacral Occipital techniques, Activator, Thompson, Cranial adjusting as well as Diversified manual techniques.


Dr. Cas Grace (Chiropractor)

Dr. Cas has been a member of the Vital Spines Team for 12 years. Cas was a Chiropractic student at the time working on reception, she loved the Vital Spines atmosphere so much, she decided to work here as a Chiropractor upon graduation from RMIT university.

Dr. Cas has been fortunate enough to work with some of Melbourne’s leading chiropractors over recent years and is eager to pass on her knowledge to the local community. Cas is an ex- Ivanhoe East Primary School student, has played and coached for the Ivanhoe knights, where some of her best childhood memories were. Being raised under Chiropractic care Cas knows the benefits first hand, which is what inspired her to study Chiropractic.

Dr. Cas has completed her Postgraduate Diploma of Chiropractic Paediatrics  (awarded by International Chiropractic Association in 2015).

Dr. Cas is a certified Webster practitioner (ICPA 2009) and is passionate in helping women through their pregnancies with gentle techniques. She also uses Sacral Occipital techniques, Activator, Thompson, Cranial adjusting as well as diversified manual techniques.

Sport has always been a big part of Cas’s life. She understands the demands on the body and looks forward to helping you achieve your optimal health and function, and deal with nasty injuries too.


Dr. Britt Delves (Chiropractor)

Dr. Britt is a RMIT University Chiropractic graduate, completing her Masters of Clinical Chiropractic.

Growing up in Bendigo, she was a regular chiropractic patient from a young age. She was then fortunate to work part time in high school as a Chiropractic Assistant alongside experienced and skilled chiropractors at a family practice. This inspired her Chiropractic Study.

Dr Britt is passionate about family Chiropractic care, having grown up in a family that received regular adjustments and experienced the benefits first hand.

Britt utilises an array of techniques in practice such as Sacral Occipital Technique, Activator and Cranial adjusting, as well as diversified manual technique. She is committed to providing high quality chiropractic care taking a holistic approach looking at the physical, emotional and chemical components of health.

Her special interest is in caring for women and children, using gentle approaches to provide the best care suited to each person.


Dr. Gaya Nanayakkara (Chiropractor)

Dr Gaya Nanayakkara is our newest member of the team at Vital Spines. Dr Gaya established Encompass Chiropractic in Ivanhoe in 2012. She has now merged her practice with Vital Spines, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our team

Dr Gaya studied at RMIT University in Melbourne, completing a Bachelor of Applied Science (Complementary Medicine) and a Master of Clinical Chiropractic.

She practiced in Adelaide for two years, where she received extensive training in Applied Kinesiology and Retained Neonatal Reflexes. Dr Gaya has also worked as a locum chiropractor in a busy paediatric practice, where she gained additional skills and knowledge in the treatment of infants and children.

Gaya works with people of all ages to help restore their health and wellbeing naturally. In particular, she works with many women during pregnancy to assist with the pregnancy, birth process and post-birth. She uses techniques such as the Webster Technique to correct neuromuscular imbalances of the pelvis and sacrum during pregnancy.

Dr Gaya is certified in Applied Kinesiology with the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK),
 and the Webster Technique with the (ICPA). 

She uses a variety of techniques to help restore and maintain your health and wellbeing, including Applied Kinesiology, Retained Neonatal Reflexes, Webster Technique, Craniosacral Therapy, Diversified Manual Adjusting and Activator Technique.
