While it can be grueling, there are a few ways you can manage the pain naturally and overcome it. As someone who wants the best for your health, give these tips a try and let us know how they work for you!

1. Stretch gently. While laying on your back, put one hand behind your knee and pull it toward your chest. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat.
2. Change your position. Sciatica can flare when you’ve been sitting in the same position for too long.
3. Stay moving. Go for walks to keep your body and spine mobile. This promotes circulation, which is necessary for healing.

DO: Strengthen your core. Regular exercise strengthens important core muscle groups including obliques, pelvic floor and deep abdominals. We can help advise you with these.

DO: Keep hydrated. Because most of our body is water, it needs proper, steady intake to keep it functioning properly.

DON’T: Sit for long periods of time. Do you work behind a desk all day? Set a reminder to get up and move once each hour.

DON’T: Sleep on your stomach! Stomach sleepers put the largest amount of pressure on their spine, head and neck leading to pain throughout the day.

  • Pain in the Neck – Poor sleeping, texting and other routine activities can literally be a pain in the neck. Here are some tips to remember that can help you avoid neck pain.

DO: Choose a pillow that supports and maintains your neck’s natural curve. A pillow that is too soft doesn’t give your neck the support it needs, and pain can result.

DO: Perform regular strengthening and stretching neck exercises each day. We would be happy to provide you with some beneficial ones.

DON’T: Bend your head down for any length of time to text or use another electronic device. Doing so can cause unnecessary strain and resulting pain.

DON’T: Burden your back and neck with a backpack, bag or briefcase that is too heavy. Lighten your load.
